Abstract

Purpose : This descriptive study was conducted to develop standards and models through job analysis of the senior nursing officers in order to identify required skills and knowledges, which would be included in the nursing OAC.
Methods : After conducting a job analysis, the mission and duties of the senior nursing officers were categorized and tested for validity. Then, the results were used to further develop the curriculum for the nursing OAC.

Results : The job analysis of senior nursing officers identified 9 missions and 145 duties. The trainee capability profile consisted of 9 missions and 52 capabilities. The practicum of the curriculum was comprised of 15 subjects aimed to develop 36 selected capabilities. The subjects were either named with ¡¯practice¡¯ or ¡¯training,¡¯ and included such subjects as Combat Readiness Training, Military Hospital Designation Administration Practice, Military Hospital Infection Management Practice, and Military Hospital General Adminstration Practice. There were 9 theory classes including Achievement Management, Organization Management, Conflict Management, North Korea Relations, Strategy, Military Terminology, and Presentation Skills.

Conclusion : This study may be useful in understanding the missions and duties of the senior officers and also may provided data required in developing the curriculum. We suggest further studies to be conducted to examine knowledge, skills, and attitude that should be included in the curriculum in order to make a useful guideline.
